About the Event
Caring for the children of others places early childhood educators in a unique position. Teachers have broad experience with a large number of children, allowing them to identify the differences, unique brilliance and possibly developmental issues or disabilities in children in their care. Schools must provide reasonable accommodation to children in their care. What should a school do if a teacher thinks a child needs an intervention? How can a school develop policies for common issues – diabetes, allergies, seizure disorders, attention differences or other unique conditions? Are there strategies that a school can use to interact with parents of a child who might be entitled to protection under the ADA? This training will describe the way that the ADA applies to places of public accommodation, such as child care centers. Then, we will work through common fact patterns and support that knowledge and begin a discussion about policies, procedures and protections for schools.
