CDEC 2024 SMART Act Hearing (Joint Education Committee) 1/17/24

Updated: Jan 25

ECEA Note: The following graphic show there were 39,165 children in the 2023-24 school year (not 36,969). Seems like the WIG should be updated to reflect the true intent (5% increase of UPK participants in the second year). A 5% increase of children from 2023-24 totals is 41,123 children.

ECEA note: In the first year, 45% of children are in community based programs and 55% are school district settings statewide. With school districts conducting early enrollments, we await the overall impacts on next years mixed delivery system. We anticipate that the number of community based placements will decrease but only time will tell.
